11-year-old Donates Cow!
Our young volunteer, Leila, seized upon our campaign to help the school buy dairy cows. It’s a home-grown solution to high inflation in Ethiopia and prepares our students for learning.
She did it. She bought a cow!
We’re Planting our Charitrees!
Thanks to Charitree Foundation, our students are planting trees as part of Ethiopia’s Green Legacy program. During the rainy season, these field trips will help restore the country to its lush, green glory.
Making a Difference
Instead of begging, or hiding, our kids are safe in school
Our Family is GrowingEducation is free in Ethiopia, so why this school? If children are so poor that they have to beg on the streets, then they do not have time for school. Fresh & Green Academy is there to take these kids in. We are the volunteers who keep 275 children in school, fed and cared for in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Canadian Friends of Fresh and Green Academy is a registered Canadian charity whose primary job is to fundraise since our school receives no government funding. In 2019, we joined the American non-profit that has been running since 2008 to spread the word about this unique school and its founder, Muday Mitiku.
Making a DonationAfter you have checked out this website, we ask you to consider making a monthly donation to contribute to the Fresh & Green community. We visit the school several times a year to make sure that donations are used for food, rent, teachers’ salaries, and supplies for the students. Monthly donations give us a sound financial footing on which to support this endeavour, but one-time donations are welcome as they have helped us overcome many a crisis.
What we do
The School Community
What Drives Us
Our MissionOur mission is to support Fresh & Green Academy through fundraising and promotion of the endeavours of the Mothers Cooperative. We aim to deliver our services to the school in person when we can, in order to assist its growth and maintenance. We hope to involve many volunteers in our events and trips so that they can share in the success and vision of school founder and director Muday Mitiku
During the next 2 rainy seasons (July-September) our students will be participating in Ethiopia’s Green Legacy campaign to re-forest the country. This is all thanks to a grant from Canada’s Charitree Foundation, to facilitate transportation and the purchase of trees. Stay tuned in July as we help teach our students their place as custodians of this planet.
