Fresh & Green
A School, A Haven
A School Born of Need
Education is free in Ethiopia, so why this school? If children are so poor that they have to beg on the streets, then they do not have time for school. Fresh & Green Academy is there to take these kids in.
We are the volunteers who keep 295 children in school, fed and cared for in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Canadian Friends of Fresh and Green Academy is a registered Canadian charity whose primary job is to fundraise since our school receives no government funding. In 2019, we joined the American non-profit that has been running since 2008 to spread the word about this unique school and its founder, Muday Mitiku.
Making a Donation
After you have checked out this website, we ask you to consider making a monthly donation to contribute to the Fresh & Green community. We visit the school several times a year to make sure that donations are used for food, rent, teachers’ salaries, and supplies for the students.
Monthly donations give us a sound financial footing on which to support this endeavour, but one-time donations are welcome as they have helped us overcome many a crisis.

Visitors' Tales
We are fortunate that many of our supporters have had a chance to visit the school in the capital of Ethiopia. Direct flights are available from Toronto, Newark, Washington D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles, Dublin, Geneva, Rome and many other cities.
See the stories of people who visited and will be supporters for life.
Mothers Cooperative
When the children are admitted to the school on a need-only basis, their mothers or caregiver might be invited into the community if they have no means of support. At the school, they learn a trade in the craft or food industry, something they can use for the rest of their lives to support their family. See how the women of Fresh & Green are empowered to determine their own future.
What Drives Us
Our Mission
Our mission is to support Fresh & Green Academy through fundraising and promotion of the endeavours of the Mothers Cooperative. We aim to deliver our services to the school in person when we can, in order to assist its growth and maintenance. We hope to involve many volunteers in our events and trips so that they can share in the success and vision of school founder and director Muday Mitiku
Get Involved
Canadian Friends of Fresh & Green Academy and our sister non-profit in the U.S. are 100% volunteer-driven. We have no plans to ever pay anybody a salary here, because we want the funds we raise to go to the kids and their mothers.
If this is the kind of job opportunity you are looking for, we can promise that you, yes You, will be your own reward for the good you have done.
